What is your primary product or service?
will provide a service for those parents that want the safety and comfort of their home without doing all the work and missing all the fun. Parents who want to avoid the hassle of packing up birthday cakes, presents etc., clear across town and paying costly rental fees.
If you are not keen on a having a party at your home and prefer to have the celebration at a separate venue, (Clubhouse, Community Center, Church, School, Recreation Center) I will come to you to entertain the kids while you tend to other matters, or if you like, you and the other adults are encouraged to join in on the fun.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I came up with this idea after attending a birthday party for my oldest daughter at a local business me and my wife rented out for an hour. It was a nice facility for a very nice price. They pretty much provided the rental space and one activity (dodge ball).
We played several games of dodge ball over a 30 minute time frame. I will say I enjoyed the competition and the exercise. However, I did notice some kids did not like to play dodge ball, so they sat on the side and waited for cake and punch to be served (BORING).
On the way home after the party, I thought to myself that with my experience, enthusiasm and passion for learning, I can offer just as much fun and engaging activities. After more thinking, I realized I could do it for half the price, with more of a variety and safe activities that gets everyone involved (kids and adults).
Over the last 20 years, I have worked with youth in both the school environment and in a juvenile correctional setting. I currently serve as a Leadership Instructor at Christa McAuliffe Academy K-8 in Wichita, Kansas.
My expertise is teaching leadership and character development to elementary, middle and high school age students. In 2011, I started Martin Leadership and Management Development.
Leadership, teaching and character development in me and in others is a burning passion of mine.
Prior to moving into the classroom, I served as the Facility Manager for the Sedgwick County Juvenile Detention Facility also located in Wichita, Kansas.
In 2011, I retired from the United States Military (Army), as a Sergeant First Class (E7) after serving 26 years on active and reserve duty. I am a veteran of the Gulf War and Iraqi Enduring Freedom.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
As a middle school teacher, I learned that getting kids up and active is very important. In my business, I primarily focus my services for that 10-17 year old age group.
At this age, kids are too old for clowns, dress up characters, and too young in most cases for the adult party atmosphere. However, I do know active and engaging games is what will get them excited.
A added plus is the fun and interactive activities I provide is conducive to learning and the kids will not even know that seeds are being planted that will help them in the future.
Developing skills like problem solving, effective teambuilding and communication to name a few will always come in handy in the present and the future.
Finally, birthdays are milestones that teens really like to enjoy with a party. It helps them learn social skills and if all goes well, it will be a bonding experience for you. From my experience working with youth, I have learned that “Kids Just Want To Have
Fun”.
